Photoshop 5: Improving Image Quality

Let's say you have an image that is very old or was not developed well and so the quality does not look very good. You can use Photoshop to try to improve the image and if you don't like the changes, you can easily convert back! The easiest way to do this is to let Photoshop automatically do this. (You can also do adjustments in numerous separate ways - See Image - Adjust)

Here is a before and after example using 'Adjust - Auto Levels'

Photoshop offers various adjustment features, so feel free to try the various ones if you don't like the Adjust-Auto Levels feature.

TIP: Very Important Command - UnDO!

It is good to know that if you don't like your change or you make a mistake, you can always fix it! Just 'step backwards'. You must do this right away after you see your error. Photoshop should let you step backwards to the last save.

  • Select Edit - Step Backwards
  • Do this as many times as needed

  1. Open your image if you haven't already.
  2. Change to RGB Mode by Selecting Image - Mode - RBG.
  3. Change Contrast by Selecting Image - Adjust - Auto Levels.
  4. Observe the differences in the image look or quality by using the UnDo command.
