THE CONSTITUTION OF THE
STUDENT CHAPTER
OF THE
AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERS
OF THE
UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA

This constitution of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, a registered organization at the University of Oklahoma, is subject to all provisions of the University of Oklahoma Student code. This chapter and all of its proceedings shall comply with all local, state, and federal laws.

Article I - Name
The name of this organization shall be the Student Chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, a registered student organization at the University of Oklahoma.
Article II - Purpose
The purpose of this chapter shall be (1) to promote the professional development of its members by its programs and by its relations with other Student Chapters and with the parent body, the American Institute of the Chemical Engineers, and (2) to contribute to the development at the University of Oklahoma through activities involving the faculty and student members.
Article III - Membership
Any student enrolled in the School of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Oklahoma shall be eligible for membership. Students in related engineering or scientific courses may be declared eligible for membership by a simple majority vote of the student chapter of AIChE members. Membership cannot be based on gender, race, color, religion, national origin, age, sexual orientation, disability, veteran status, marital status, or political belief.
Article IV - Officers
To direct the activities of the chapters, the following officers and committee members shall serve for the entire school year: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Publicity chair, and sophomore, junior, and senior class representatives.
Article V - Election of Officers
Election for the following school year of the officers listed in Article IV shall take place no later than the next to the last meeting of each school year. Nomination for the President can be verbal or written. President elected will be the one with the most votes. The remaining officers shall be elected by the same procedure in the order in which they are listed in Article IV.

The President shall appoint all other committees. Any vacancies in officers which occur before the end of the school year shall be filled by means of a special election conducted in the manner specified previously.
Article VI - Advisor
The advisor of the chapter must be a full time member of the University of Oklahoma's faculty or staff.
Article VII - Amendments to the Constitution
Amendments to the Constitution may be proposed at any regular meeting by any member of the chapter.
Adoption of an amendment shall be by three-fourths vote of all members attending a later regular meeting.
Article VIII - Custody of the Constitution and Bylaws
One copy of the Constitution and Bylaws shall be in the possession of the President of the Chapter.

One copy of the Constitution and Bylaws shall be in the possession of the Advisor of the Chapter

One copy of the Constitution and Bylaws shall be in the possession of the Staff Associate, Student Activities, of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers for the permanent files of the Institute.

Each of the aforementioned officers shall promptly deliver his/her copy to his/her successor.
BYLAWS
Article I - Procedure
The conduct of each meeting shall conform to a generally recognized Rules of Order procedure the following being hereby adopted:
Article II - Duties of Officers
President: The President shall be the Chief Executive Officer and preside over all meetings.

Vice President: The Vice President shall assist the President in performance of his/her duties and shall preside at the meetings of all other committees.

Secretary: The Secretary shall keep record of all meetings in parliamentary form and shall preserve all papers relating to the affairs of the chapter and deliver the same promptly to his/her elected successor. The Secretary shall prepare, obtain the approval of the President for, all formal and informal reports requested by the Chapter Advisor or the Officers of the Student Chapter Committee. He/She shall preside in the absence of the President or Vice President in Chapter meetings.

Treasurer: The Treasurer shall collect all dues and assessments promptly. He/She shall keep all financial records and permit their inspection by any other officer of the chapter or by the advisor upon request. Upon the request of the President, he/she shall present an oral financial report at any meeting of the Chapter. He/She will present a complete final written report at the last meeting of each school year, and at that time, he/she shall deliver to his/her successor all Chapter records and funds in his/her possession.

Publicity Chair: The Publicity Chair is responsible for the organization of any and all means of publicity throughout the year of the proceedings of the Chapter.

Social Chair: The Social Chair is responsible for the organization of General and Technical Meetings of the Chapter. He/She is also responsible for any and all accommodations necessary for such events.

Webmaster: The Webmaster is responsible for the design and content of the Chapter Website (coecs.ou.edu/aiche). He/She must work closely with all officers to maintain the website. The website content shall be subject to the approval of the Chapter Officers and Advisor.

Historian: The Historian is responsible for all digital records of the Chapter. He/She shall work closely with the Secretary and Treasurer to keep records accurate, as well as with the Webmaster in keeping the chapter website current.

Class Representatives: The Class Representatives shall be the liaisons between the Chapter and the members of each Chemical proceedings of the Chapter and shall report directly to the Publicity Chair. Class Representatives shall be elected within the first two weeks of the Fall Semester by nominations and a majority vote of the members of each class.
Article III - Dues
The annual dues of the chapter shall be $25, payable at any function of each school year.
Article IV - Assessments
Assessments for any specific purpose may be levied by a two-thirds vote of the members, attending any regular meeting of the chapter.
Article V - Amendments to the Bylaws
Amendments to the Bylaws shall be proposed and adopted by the procedure specified in Article VII of the Constitution.
