Colombian Night 2006

The annual cultural night organized by the Colombian students is the most important event for the association. This year, Colombian Night 2006 "COLOMBIA: THE HAPPIEST NATION IN THE WORLD" was a complete success not only for its members, but all the OU community that participated from the the event.

"People were dancing in the aisles in Meacham Auditorium Saturday, as Colombians and Americans from all over the state celebrated the fifth annual Colombian Night...." (C.J. Macklin, OU Daily reporter)

COLSA Speaker Series: Pedro Medina

One of the main activities in the Colombian Student Association is the Speaker Series, where we bring a distinguished Colombian lecturer, widely recognized, to talk about his/her specialty, stimulate leadership among the students and promote the cultural and human richness of Colombia on campus. Last semester we had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Pedro Medina, one of the most well known businessmen in Colombia and creator of “Fundacion Yo Creo en Colombia” (or “I Believe in Colombia Foundation”). His visit empowered the Colombian students to spread out the best kept secrets about our country and as a result, a student chapter of “Yo Creo en Colombia” was created at the University of Oklahoma. OU - COLSA Soccer Team

The Sport Chairs of the Colombian Student Association, David and Camilo Mutis had the idea of creating a competitive soccer team and participate from the Oklahoma College Soccer League. They did a great job during the Fall2005 season and will play again this spring. The team is not only composed by Colombians, but also students from United States, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Germany and Venezuela. As a result of this multicultural activity, some of the players decided to go and experience by themselves “The True Colombia”. The trip was fantastic! They went together with the Colombian players to 8 different cities in the country (Bogota, Zipaquira, Bucaramanga, Cartagena, Medellin, Armenia, Manizales, and Ibague). It was thanks to that trip that were able to discover what THE TRUE COLOMBIA really is. They were interviewed by their Colombian teammates about their experience.
