Welcome to the School of Chemical, Biological and Materials Engineering
at the University of Oklahoma! CBME is a dynamic department with world class research and education programs. In our undergraduate program, we offer three options (Standard, Biotechnology, and Biomedical Engineering/Pre-med) which give undergraduates the opportunity to tailor their education to their specific interests. We encourage participation in cutting-edge research projects. Right now, CBME undergraduates are involved in synthesizing single wall carbon nanotubes with truly remarkable properties; developing tissue-engineered bones and blood vessels; creating novel environmental remediation technologies; modifying materials at the nano-level via single-molecule thick polymer films; helping address energy-related issues through gas conversion technologies, petroleum processing technologies and optimization strategies; and many other exciting research projects. The College of Engineering is in its $100 million capital campaign which will fund a state-of-the-art engineering building and an engineering practice facility where undergraduate projects can be staged and demonstrated. Engineering freshmen are mentored by upperclass engineers of the Dean’s Leadership Council, and chemical engineering sophomores are mentored by our Chevron Phillips Mentors. The chemical engineering curriculum has been restructured to give undergraduates greater flexibility and options, while also emphasizing preparation for the world our graduates will enter. I hope you will look further into chemical engineering and the University of Oklahoma. It is an exciting time in CBME!
Sincerely,
